On April 17, 2025, Ambassador Chen Hai of the Embassy of China in Ethiopia met with Zechara, the chairman of the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce, and members of the council. Counsellor Liu Xiaoguang was present.

Ambassador Chen congratulated the Chamber of Commerce on the establishment of its new council and positively evaluated the efforts made by the Chamber to promote friendly cooperation between China and Ethiopia. Ambassador Chen pointed out that the world is currently far from peaceful. The United States, under the pretext of so-called "fairness and reciprocity", has imposed excessive tariffs on its global trading partners, seriously disrupting the global economic order and the multilateral trading system. This is a typical act of unilateralism, protectionism and power bullying. China adheres to a policy of friendship, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness towards Africa and has made significant contributions to Africa's stability and development through various means, including the Belt and Road Initiative. China will continue to uphold multilateralism and openness, and promote world multipolarization and economic globalization based on the principles of openness, transparency, equality and mutual benefit. The Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia will continue to encourage Chinese enterprises to deepen cooperation with the Ethiopian business community and jointly embark on the path of modernization.

Chairman Zehara stated that the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce was established in 1947 and is the oldest and largest business association in Ethiopia, and is also a member of the International Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce has always been a supporter of free trade, attaches great importance to China's status and role, and opposes the unilateralism and protectionism of the United States in imposing "reciprocal tariffs", believing that this is not beneficial to the United States itself. As a non-governmental force promoting foreign economic cooperation, the Chamber of Commerce will continue to be committed to promoting cooperation with China, exploring the Chinese market, strengthening trade and project cooperation, and actively participating in platforms such as the Canton Fair, the China International Import Expo, and the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo to jointly seek cooperation and development.
