On April 24, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Chen Hai attended the signing ceremony of the Addis Ababa waste incineration power generation project. Addis Ababa's Vice Mayor Wendimu Seta, Chairman of China Electric Works Co., Ltd. Zhao Hui, and Chairman of Shenzhen Energy Group Li Yingfeng, among others, were present.
Ambassador Chen congratulated on the signing of the project, positively appraised Addis Ababa's achievements in urban development, and stated that Addis Ababa is not only the capital of Ethiopia but also the political capital of Africa and a regional transportation hub, having close ties and cooperation with many Chinese cities. China is willing to enhance exchanges of governance experience with Addis Ababa in urbanization and industrialization, and contribute to making Addis Ababa more beautiful and prosperous.
Ambassador Chen, together with the attending guests, witnessed the signing of the Addis Ababa waste incineration power generation project. According to the agreement, China and Ethiopia will cooperate to build a high-standard incineration power generation facility with a daily processing capacity of 1,200 tons at the Koshe landfill in Addis Ababa, effectively improving the local environmental pollution problem and enhancing the living environment of citizens.
Ambassador Chen also discussed with Wondimu the cooperation on the next development projects of Addis Ababa.
