On April 30, 2025, Minister Counselor Liu Xiaoguang of the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia attended the handover ceremony of the 300 cubic meters of biogas power generation demonstration project under the China-Ethiopia-UNDP renewable energy trilateral cooperation project. Sultan, Minister of State of the Ministry of Water and Energy of Ethiopia, and Samuel, Country Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Ethiopia, attended.
Minister Counselor Liu said in his speech that multilateralism is an inevitable choice to solve the current difficulties and challenges in the world, and China is a firm practitioner. The handover of the demonstration project marks new achievements in the trilateral cooperation. China is willing to work with UN agencies and Ethiopia in the spirit of sincerity, support Ethiopia in exploring a path of modernization that suits its national conditions, promote the implementation of the "Ten Partners Action" in Ethiopia, and further strengthen cooperation with Ethiopia and the United Nations Development Program in the fields of green economy and renewable energy development to improve people's livelihood. The representatives of the Ethiopian side and the United Nations spoke highly of China's efforts to successfully complete the demonstration project, and sincerely thanked China for its long-term valuable support for Ethiopia's economic and social development. They are willing to continue to actively carry out multilateral practical cooperation projects with China to benefit the Ethiopian people.
The project is jointly funded by China, Ethiopia and the United Nations Development Program, and jointly organized and implemented by the Ministry of Commerce of China, the Ministry of Water and Energy of Ethiopia, and the United Nations Development Program. It aims to promote the application of renewable energy technologies such as biogas in Ethiopia. The biogas power generation demonstration project handed over this time will benefit 46,000 local people.
Minister Counselor Liu Xiaoguang and his delegation also visited the teachers of the agricultural vocational education group in Ethiopia working in the local vocational education school, and sent condolences and blessings for the "May 1" Labor Day.
