"Seeing China·Fostering China-Ethiopia Media Collaboration" was held in Addis Ababa

On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Ethiopia, the theme event "Seeing China·Fostering China-Ethiopia Media Collaboration" co-organized by the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) of China, the Ethiopian Government Communication Service (GCS), and the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia was successfully held in the capital Addis Ababa on May 14. H.E. Ms. CAO Shumin, Minister of NRTA, H.E. Mr. Legese Tulu, Minister of the GCS, and H.E. Mr. Chen Hai, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, attended the event and delivered speeches. The Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, media authorities of the two countries, and representatives of Ethiopian mainstream media and cultural enterprises attended the event.

H.E. Ms. CAO Shumin said in her speech that Ethiopia is an important birthplace of African civilization and an important partner of China in Africa. It is hoped that the two sides will carry out in-depth audio-visual content exchanges, innovate and explore technical industry cooperation, and continue to carry out personnel exchanges under the guidance and promotion of the China-Africa initiative of cooperation on innovation in radio, TV and audio and visual programs, so as to inject strong impetus into the all-round, wide-ranging and three-dimensional cooperation in the field of radio, television and audio-visual between China and Ethiopia.

H.E. Mr. Legese Tulu said in his speech that Ethiopia and China have the same development goals, and respect and appreciate each other's long history and culture. The State Administration of Radio and Television of China has played an important role in promoting the development of industrial cooperation between Ethiopia and China's radio, television and audio-visual industries. He also said that this event has practical significance and is an important step in implementing the consensus of the leaders of the two countries and strengthening the all-weather strategic partnership.

H.E. Amb. Chen Hai said in his speech that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Ethiopia, the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the Anti-Fascist War, and a key year for implementing the spirit of the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. The "Seeing China·Fostering China-Ethiopia Media Collaboration" event will promote in-depth exchanges between the Chinese and Ethiopian news and radio media circles, jointly draw up a blueprint for cooperation, and continue to write a new chapter of exchanges and cooperation, which is of special significance. Guests from both sides witnessed the launch of "China Time" in Ethiopia. "China Time", which was launched on the Ethiopia Broadcasting Corporate(EBC), is jointly operated by China Radio and Television International Economic and Technical Cooperation Co., Ltd. and the EBC. It broadcasts Chinese audio-visual works on a regular basis. The first batch of plans to broadcast TV series "My Altay" and "Three Body", cartoons "Qiqi and Noona" (Season 1), "Panda and Luta", documentaries "Escaping Poverty", "Innovative China", "Panda Adventure", variety shows "China Wisdom China Tour", agricultural programs "China Farm", etc. In addition, more than 10 selected Chinese audio-visual programs will be broadcast on Ethiopian Fana TV, Ethiopian News Agency, Africa Renaissance TV, etc., presenting an audio-visual feast from China to Ethiopian audiences.

Representatives from EBC and African Renaissance Television and African bloggers from Chinese short video platforms spoke on the audio-visual cooperation between Ethiopia and China. The event released the "Ethiopian Youth Look at China" short drama creation plan and launched the "Ethiopian Youth Look at China" short drama competition. The event also held Chinese cultural experience activities such as intangible cultural heritage paper-cutting, shadow puppetry, and calligraphy, which attracted many guests to stop and watch.
