From May 14 to 17, Cao Shumin, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of the National Radio and Television Administration, led a delegation to visit Ethiopia at the invitation of the Ethiopian Government Communication Service. During the visit, Cao Shumin and her delegation paid a visit to Selma Malika Haddadi, Vice Chairman of the AU Commission, and held working talks with Legese Tulu, Director of the Ethiopian Government Communication Service, Samson Mekonnen, Director of the Ethiopian Media Authority, and Zelalem Abera, Deputy CEO of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation. H.E. Mr. Hu Changchun, Ambassador of the Chinese Mission to the AU and H.E. Mr. Chen Hai, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Ethiopia, accompanied them to participate in relevant activities.

On behalf of Chairman Youssef, Vice Chairman Haddadi welcomed the visit of Director Cao Shumin and the delegation, spoke highly of the fruitful cooperation between China and the AU, and pointed out that cultural cooperation, including radio, television and audio-visual, has played a positive role in promoting all-round cooperation between China and Africa in politics, economy and other fields, and will help the AU achieve the 2063 Agenda.

Dr. Legese said that China and Ethiopia share the same vision for development and the same willingness to cooperate. Radio, television and audio-visual are of great significance in promoting social development and conveying positive values. He hopes to comprehensively deepen cooperation with China under the framework of an initiative of cooperation on innovation in radio, TV and audio and visual programs, create a new industrial development pattern, and better serve the well-being of the people.

Cao Shumin said that this visit is to implement the initiative of cooperation on innovation in radio, TV and audio and visual programs announced by President Xi Jinping during the Beijing Summit of the FOCAC. He hopes to strengthen cooperation with the AU and further expand the depth and breadth of China-Africa radio, television and audio-visual cooperation under the guidance of the China-Africa Media Cooperation Forum mechanism. He is willing to establish a regular exchange and cooperation mechanism with Ethiopia, promote pragmatic cooperation in key areas such as digital transformation of radio and television media, production and exchange of program content, improvement of transmission coverage capabilities, and professional capacity building, and create a model of China-Africa radio, television and audio-visual cooperation. 

During the visit, the 2025 "Seeing China·Fostering China-Ethiopia Media Collaboration" event was also held to launch the launch of "China Time" of the Ethiopian National Broadcasting Corporation and the exhibition of Chinese programs by Ethiopian Fana TV, Ethiopian News Agency, Africa Renaissance TV and other institutions.
