On June 10, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Chen Hai attended the handover ceremony of supplies for the emergency cholera vaccine project that China aids Ethiopia. He signed an inter-governmental handover certificate with Ethiopian Minister of Health Mekdes. Liu Xiaoguang, Minister Counselor of the embassy, also participated.

Ambassador Chen said that the project is a vivid example of China's active implementation of the spirit of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and its commitment to building a China-Africa community with a shared future. He hoped that the vaccines could be distributed and used soon to help Ethiopia effectively prevent and control the epidemic and safeguard people's lives and health. China will continue to cooperate and exchange with Ethiopia in public health to make health and well-being the cornerstone for the two peoples to jointly embrace a modern future.

On behalf of the Ethiopian government, Mekdes expressed sincere gratitude to the Chinese government. She said the supplies would play a crucial role in helping Ethiopia contain the cholera epidemic. Ethiopia will distribute and make good use of the aid supplies as soon as possible. She hoped to continue to cooperate more with China in the future to boost the development of Ethiopia's public health cause.
