BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin on Tuesday pledged to work with Ethiopia to advance mutually beneficial cooperation.

"We will make joint efforts to promote bilateral ties," said Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), when meeting a delegation from the Ethiopian House of Federation.

Hailing the development of China-Ethiopia relations since forging diplomatic ties 40 years ago, Jia said the two nations had seen fruitful cooperation in politics, economy and culture, and closely coordinated in international affairs.

China and Ethiopia, both developing nations, were faced with the same task of development. Jia said enhancing bilateral comprehensive cooperation accorded with the fundamental interests of the two peoples.

Jia said the exchanges between the CPPCC and the Ethiopian House of Federation had helped deepen mutual understanding between the two peoples and enrich bilateral ties.

Jia hoped the two sides would strengthen personnel exchanges and regularly exchange views on governance and improving people's living standards.

Jia said the two organs should continue understanding and supporting each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns, in a bid to contribute more to the growth of nation-to-nation relations.

Speaker of the House of Federation Degefi Bula said his country valued ties with China. He hoped to learn from China's experience in promoting economic and social development and safeguarding national unity.

The House of Federation was ready to increase exchanges and cooperation with the CPPCC to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, he said.

Degefi is visiting China from June 19 to 26 as guest of Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC).
