Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Meets with Ethiopian Counterpart Seyoum

On June 30, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with his visiting Ethiopian counterpart, Seyoum Mesfin.

Yang hailed the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two countries, saying it has witnessed continuous and rapid development in recent years. With 2010 marking the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations, Yang said China is the ready to take this opportunity to work with Ethiopia and further boost bilateral cooperation in all areas. Yang said that China-Africa relationship has enjoyed continuous development in recent years based on the traditional friendship. Yang expressed appreciation for Ethiopia's efforts to promote the building and development of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), noting that the Forum has become a banner leading China-Africa cooperation.

Seyoum, on behalf of the Ethiopian government, appreciated the long-standing support extended by China for Ethiopia's social and economic development. He also appreciated the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) for playing an important role in promoting solidarity and cooperation between China and African countries and in facilitating development in African countries. Seyoum said Ethiopia is ready to enhance coordination and collaboration with China and to contribute more to Ethiopia-China, Africa-China friendly cooperative relations.

The two also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
