On March 20, 2017 local time, Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn of Ethiopia met with State Councilor Yang Jiechi in Addis Ababa.
Yang Jiechi noted that Ethiopia is China's important cooperation partner in Africa. China and Ethiopia support each other on issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns, which firmly safeguards the common interests of the two countries and developing countries. China is willing to make joint efforts with Ethiopia to further implement the important consensus reached by leaders of both countries and the outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), comprehensively deepen political mutual trust, actively advance mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and intensify coordination and collaboration in international and regional affairs, in a bid to push bilateral relations for better and faster development, thus to become a model of China-Africa cooperation and South-South cooperation.
Highly appreciating China's important role in international affairs, Hailemariam Desalegn thanked China for providing long-term support and assistance to the development of Ethiopia, and expressed that as a demonstration and pioneering country for China-Africa production capacity cooperation, Ethiopia welcomes more Chinese companies to invest and establish business in Ethiopia, so as to achieve bilateral mutual benefit and win-win results.
On the same day, Yang Jiechi also met with President Mulatu Teshome of Ethiopia. Both sides highly appreciated the important achievements of China-Ethiopia mutually beneficial cooperation, and exchanged views on the situation in Africa and China-Africa relations. Both sides agreed that the current situation in Africa in general is changing for the better with broad development prospects. China and Africa should deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and actively implement the outcomes of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit, so as to further benefit the Chinese and African people.
