China grants scholarship to 41 Ethiopian students

Addis Ababa, August 5, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - The Chinese government has granted free scholarship to 41 Ethiopian Students.

Speaking at the Farewell bid at premises of the embassy here on Thursday Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Gu Xiaojie said the Chinese government has been offering free scholarship to Ethiopians since the 1980s.

In recent years, he said his government offers 130 government scholarships including bachelor, masters and doctorate degrees programs in 200 various training opportunities to Ethiopian professionals.

Ambassador Gu said China will continue its efforts to further bolster the cooperation between the two countries.

Representing the Ministry of Education, Tewodros Habte said the support of the Chinese government especially in technical and vocational education is commendable.

He said close to 70 per cent of China's scholarship to Ethiopia is on engineering fields which he said is a meaningful support for the national development endeavor.
