Addis Ababa, November 25, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - President Girma sent Message of Felicitation on Wednesday to his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao on the occasion of the 4oth anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and China.
In a message he sent to Hu Jintao, President Girma said the trade ties between the tow countries has shown a steady growth since the diplomatic relations was established 40 years ago especially following quota and tariff opportunity provided to Ethiopia by the Chinese government.
He said China is playing a pivotal role in the efforts underway to reduce poverty in Ethiopia by providing loans and grants for various development projects.
“What China is doing in this respect would ideed allow Ethiopia achive the Millennium Development Goals,” Girma added.
President Girma said the Ethiopian government would do everything possible to further strengthen its relations with China.
Speaking at the event marking the 40th anniversary of the Ethio-China diplomatic relations, Hailemariam Desalegn, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister said over the past 40 years, the bilateral relationship has withstand the tests of changes of both international and domestic situations and developed in a sound and profound manner.
He said China is willing to further strengthen its relations with Ethiopia.
Hailemariam said Ethiopia would continue strengthening its relations with China.
Chinese President Hu Jintao on his part has sent similar message to President Girma wishing peace and prosperity of the Ethiopian and people and government.
He said in his message that China would exert maximum effort to elevate its all-round bilateral relations with Ethiopia to an excellent level.
